Indibano – Come Together – is an invitation to join the most exciting new musicians from the Eastern and Western Cape for a taste of what their individual shows will bring.
The lineup includes Zuko Yigi (Jazz Umcimbi), Joliza (the Bhacasoul Experience), Umle (Abantwana Belanga) and the Thandeka Mfinyongo Band (Ingoduko), with each taking the stage for 20 minutes.
Abantwana Belanga is the first live studio project by this charismatic slang slinging pair. Lyrics laid on a limping chord progression, this music reflects communal issues in/directly experienced by the duo.
The Thandeka Mfinyongo Band is bringing Ingoduko to Makhanda this year. The production is not to be missed, not only for the uhadi and umrhubhe, but also for the theme of homecoming.
Jazz Umcimbi reimagines the sonic as a space in which the cultural performance is realised and is a multidisciplinary work that engages art as location of our cultural identities and histories.
The Bhacasoul Experience pays homage to Joliza’s ethnicity – Bhaca. While the music reflects some elements of Afro soul, jazz and maskandi, it leans more on traditional Bhaca elements of “ukucwiya”(spiritual singing), “ukuvalela” (spiritual humming and chanting) and “ukuxhentsa”(spiritual dancing).
