Kaecy’s Autumn – In Concert

Music / Thomas Pringle

Kaecy’s Autumn is inspired by a poem by KAECY, with the same name. The music explores themes of vulnerability, heartbreak, rejection, and childhood traumas, all laid bare just like trees lose their covering in the form of leaves in Autumn. The music in this project invites the audience to a vulnerable, unlayered side of the artist that is KAECY. The various themes will be introduced by poetry written by KAECY, and the audience will journey not only through KAECY’s life but through their own experiences.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

KAECY is a South African singer, songwriter, performer, and recording artist born and bred in the township of Mamelodi, east of Pretoria. Born into a family of singers, it was only natural that KAECY would find himself on the same path of music, singing in public as early as the age of 10 years. He then joined his church choir at the Mamelodi Baptist Church at 13 years old. This served as preparation for him for the tasks ahead.

In September 2007, he was appointed choir conductor of Rhodes University’s Voice of Glory Choir where his gift for songwriting and vocal arrangement was honed. Under his leadership, the choir was invited to perform at Wits University and performed, most notably at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown (now Makhanda) in 2007 and 2008.

In 2009, KAECY moved back to Pretoria, where he continued his musical journey and worked as a background vocalist for several distinguished artists such as Hassan Green (US), Bongi & Collin (SAMA and Crown Gospel Award winners), Letang Tlome and Mabongi among many others, both in-studio as a session artist as well as on stage for performances. KAECY’s style of music can be described as smooth boasting impressive lyrical content. While his roots are in gospel music, KAECY is not restricted to any specific genre, boasting a versatility desired by many which he uses in his current sound.

In 2014, KAECY ventured out as a solo artist with his first-ever concert titled #SO_BEAUTIFUL, held on the 11th of October 2014 in Pretoria, where he received resounding praise for his music, delivery, and all-round finessed command on stage, this concert delivered way more than anticipated. What was meant to be a testing ground for someone who had never shared his music with a live audience before, KAECY’s #SO_BEAUTIFUL concert went on to distinguish him as a remarkable singer, songwriter, and entertainer in his own right.

After years of planning and preparation, KAECY, released his debut album, “So Beautiful”, aptly titled after the concert that launched his solo career while also describing the sheer feel of songs the album boasts. The album which touches on topics such as love, heartbreak, same-sex relationships, and sexuality, was released on the 6th of October 2017 and launched on the 13th of October 2017, and is available on iTunes, Apple Music, and Google Music, and all other leading digital platforms.

Kaecy has also been featured on Afro Café (a live music television show) on their #NewComersOnAfroCafe special, as well as on Gospel Classics (inspiration music television show), #NewBreed special which both aired on SABC 2. Kaecy has also had the honour of performing at various notable venues across the country, including the South African State Theatre, The Johannesburg Theatre, and the inaugural Feathers Festival in Johannesburg as part of the Feathers Awards.
