Theatre / Princess Alice

A play that seamlessly combines movement, storytelling and musical performance in a moving love tale of a young man (Kgotso) caught between having to do what is expected of him and following his heart. Does he give into his family and society and build his future in a loveless marriage, or does be with the man he loves?

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Isaac E. Sithole is an actor, writer, director and also a visual artist who creates and performs as a puppeteer. He started to follow his heart in the field of art at a primary level while residing in Gauteng, Sharpeville. He has since been involved in various productions, workshops and community youth development programs in Theatre that have helped him develop his skills in writing, performance and creation. Some of the recent theatre shows he has written and performed include 21 March Sharpeville Massacre, Washonaphi and DIKAKAPA both Directed by Lebeko J. Nketu. DIKAKAPA was awarded the most promising production by the Gauteng Ishashalazi programme, The Standard Bank Ovation Award at the National Arts Festival, and won the Zwakala Theatre Festival hosted by the Market Theatre.
As a puppeteer he has created and performed in SAGURU giant puppet company based in Orange Farm and also The Giant Match Association as an artistic director for a show called “meet my in laws”, as part of a collaboration between The Gauteng Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation with The French Institute. He has had the opportunity to perform in festivals both locally and internationally.

Tumelo Mdabuli hails from Sharpeville (phelendaba). He is an actor, musician and dancer. He is a member of Generations of Stars. His experiences through the creation of Dikakapa were fruitful. He performed at the Gauteng Ishashalazi Festival the year that Dikakapa won the Most Promising Production Award. He also took part in the Zwakala Festival where he learned a lot about theatre making processes through the mentorship of Kgafela oa Magogodi, Themba Mkhoma, Mpho Molepo, Lebeko Nketu, Teboho Serapelo and Isaac Sithole. He has performed at the National Arts Festival and won a Standard Bank Ovation Award.
