Mnquma

Dance / Glennie Hall

This production revolves around a man on a quest to reconnecting to his roots and reclaim the legacy of his ancestors. As a young boy he faced challenges and questions about who and what he was, questions his family couldn’t answer. . This became the catalyst to his transformation into the man he wished to become. The narrative is illustrated through the use of his background and includes Xhosa and Bhaca dance forms.

Mnquma is strongly married with original music compositions by Bongwana, Elvis Sibeko and No-Finish, a traditional Xhosa musician who achieved much recognition throughout her lifetime and who is regarded as the master of “uhadi” music.
