Moya

Family  /  Theatre / Guy Butler Auditorium

MOYA explores and celebrates heritage and culture in an acrobatic display that paints a picture before your eyes.
Existing within the familiar comfort of a fruit market, where the merchant juggles his apples, through to the dark, windy streets of Cape Town where pedestrians bustle and tumble, and perhaps even a young woman flies away on the sheets of her washing line, the artists reveal themselves to the audience, telling their stories of escape, encounter, brotherhood and ubuntu. Reality bends and anything is possible.
This uniquely South African production is set against the backdrop of Nelson Mandela’s Rainbow Nation: the manifestation of a dream that all of South Africa’s people, a nation of a 11 official languages and diverse cultures, can unite and cultivate a future of peaceful co-existence and harmony.
MOYA features a collective of nine young and dynamic performing artists that take you on a multi-coloured journey through the looking-glass of the Zip Zap Circus – a microcosm of South Africa.
The show exudes the tangible African spirit of ‘vuma’ [passion], joy, and resilience stirring local rhythms and acrobatic flair.
MOYA was originally an Acrobatic Art Film which has been transformed into a circus narrative production, directed by a collective of creatives.
