THE CRACKED VASE is a tragic love story. The two love birds are Siwelele and Zwelibanzi who meet in the big city of Johannesburg after leaving their homes in search of better lives after their worlds crashed and hope faded. As the story unfolds they discover a secret that threatens to destroy their relationship. Zwelibanzi is facing a crisis; Does he disregard his culture in the name of love or does he abandon Siwelele and their unborn child? Despite the tragedy that befell their love leaving a stain that is hard to remove, the flame of their love still burns strongly. Will they survive the cultural scrutiny and find their way back to each other’s arms?

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

NONTSIKELELO NDZUME, fondly known as Ntsiki, in the entertainment industry, is a talented young woman who sings and entertains her audience with her soulful music. Through her music she aspires to heal and encourage her wider audience, especially young women. She is also a multi-talented individual who has moved into the world of acting as well as music. She was born in Bloemfontein and started singing at the age of 8 at her church as a member of AFRICAN GOSPEL CHURCH Sunday school choir. Her love for music grew each day and at the age of 10 she joined a choir at her primary school, and a clap and tap choir in her local community. Her high school choir made her explore music in a different way, where she learnt staff notation and tonic-sol-fa. Following school, she joined BELCANTO VOICES led by Mrs Lindelwa Vumenjani Nqata. A few years down the line she met PETER NTHWANE, and worked with him from 2002 as his backing vocalist. At the same time she also worked with groups like KAYA, FREESTATE WOMEN OF JAZZ, NTSHIWA LENONO, THOKOZILE NOGABE, AMBISISTERS, THAMI RADIBUSENG, KEORAPETSI MELAMO and MARANATHA all based in the Free State. In 2010 she left the Free State to expand her knowledge in the field of arts and went to study drama, radio personality and TV presenting for a year at THUTHUKA Casting in Johannesburg. After finishing her studies she was cast as one of the leads in THE UNBREAKABLE THREAD, led by Regina Nawa and Don Mlangeni Nawa for the ANC centenary celebration. Following that, she was cast in NUMBER
43 directed by Mbongeni Ngema. In 2012 she was cast in another musical, THE MADONNAS OF EXCELSOR, co-directed by Roel Twinjstra and Jerry Pooe.

Between the years 2003 and 2022, Ntsiki’s musical and acting career has spun into a wonderful fruition. Her dedication and hard work have earned her international status, from the days of attending the HAIFA FESTIVAL in Zimbabwe, to her tour as the face of the musical, The African Mamas, in the Netherlands. In music circles, she has shared the stage with women of jazz. performing at PACOFS with Unathi, Judith Sephuma, PJ Powers and Angelique Kidjo. Since her debut album, QAMATA, released in 2014, the sensational Ntsiki has graced many concerts, which include among others, MACUFE DIVAS, sharing the stage with great artists such Tamia, Lira, Maleh, as well FS Divas at MACUFE, WOMEN OF NOTE, and WOMAN TO WOMAN music concerts.

Mbuyiselo Nqodi was born in Bloemfontein in the Free State. He is a graduate from the University of the Free State with a BA in Theatre and Drama. His love for the creative arts started in high school when he joined a school drama group. Following high school he joined performing arts development at PACOFS, where he discovered his talents as an actor. He was cast in Haba-reshebe, directed by Babes Mphatseng, Shukumisa, directed by Bushy Shikishi, The Cursed Child, directed by Vuyo Mfanekiso, Chasing Laughter, directed by Karabelo Lekalake, and My Children my Africa, directed by Angelo Mockie, amongst other. He has also directed plays including Dark Voices Ring, The Cracked Vase, Once Upon a Tongue, Tselane le dimo, and Blue Flames. He is credited for his TV role in Ingozi,I themba and films such as Concrete Jungle, and 12 disciples of Nelson Mandela.

Siphiwe Mtshali
Siphiwe Mtshali is a South African actor and television presenter best known for hosting the SABC1 dance show Jam Alley and for his roles as Zamani Khoza on Generations and as DJ on Tsha Tsha. He also played the role of Bash on the e.tv soapie Rhythm City.

PASCALINE PHALE
Pascaline Phale was born and raised in DAVEYTON, East of Johannesburg. She comes from a family of artists. Art has been always a career and way of living in herfamily. Her passion for art started at an early age doing sketches (THEATRE) at school. In addition to theatre, she is also interested in fashion, costume design, music and karate (1st Dan KYOKOSHIN KAI). Her 1st exposure to the acting industry was in an international movie, THE MOST DANGEROUS WOMAN, when she was doing karate and stunts which opened doors to other international movies.

Mannini Nkata
Mannini Nkata is an actress/ theatre practitioner born and bred in Makeleketla Windburg. She holds a qualification in Education and Linguistics which she obtained at the Central University of Technology in 2018. Maninni has managed to integrate her qualification as a language practitioner by translating arts in schools in her hometown, with the aim of expanding into schools throughout the Free State Province. Her passion for the arts was awakened in 2005 when she joined the Zonke Bonke Community Theatre Group. She performed at street shows and backyards in her community. This increased her love for theatre, her love for playing and her love for giving back to her community. She understood that performing arts can be a catalyst for social change and justice. She started telling meaningful stories that society longs to hear about.

Maninni has managed to broaden her scope as an artist beyond just performing. She was employed at the Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation. She interacted with the Arts and Culture industry on an administrative level. She managed to cultivate her passion for community work through organising workshops for different crafts under the arts and culture umbrella. She also worked with the Linda Botha Language Services as a Freelance translator where she specialised in SeSotho and English. Her corporate work experience has aided in her success as a theatre actress, she remains grounded in the knowledge and understanding of her craft.

She has worked with different people in different theatre projects throughout the years. She has shown tenacity and commitment to her work. Mannini has managed to embody different characters and has told stories that address issues of gender and culture. In 2012 she was part of a theatre production called Mabu, the production was showcased at PACOFS, she also starred in The Blacks, a theatre production that was also showcased in PACOFS the following year. She received the Best Actress Award for her role in “ The Perfect Cure “ which was showcased at the Vavasati Festival at the State Theatre in2014. She also starred in the “ Cracked Vase” at PACOFS in the same year. Mannini was part of the “Tselane le Dimo” theatre production at PACOFS in 2015. In 2016 she participated in two theatre productions at PACOFS: “ Dark Visions and Once upon a tongue”. She was part of “Poetry Cries” that was showcased in PACOFS and at the National Arts Festival in 2017. Arranged Marriages is a theatre production that took her back to National Arts Festival in 2018. These experiences and artistic opportunities further strengthened the bond that she has established with theatre and storytelling.
