ZemQadini

Theatre / Pj's

ZemQadini is a narrative inspired by the wars that happened in the South of KwaZulu-Natal in 1998 just four years post-apartheid when the eZembeni community and emaQadini community were fighting over the physical placement of the Chief.

Trapped by the wars of the past and the ongoing battles within, Vuyo and Dumi relive the battlefield daily. Doomed by a war that bore little success and a system that tore apart communities and families, this tale told through the recollection of Dumi, is a story of two men bruised by a war that never benefited them, yet left them destitute. Dumi’s inability to see and Vuyo’s inability to walk forces them to function as one person that has no ability to walk away from their situation and no chance of seeing ahead. They are stuck in their non-existence, forced to look back in order to make sense.

The play happens in flashbacks when the two characters remember the days when the war was active.
